After any significant changes take place, the status of the parcel will be updated accordingly. But if you do not see it straight away, do not consider the package lost – it can just be temporarily delayed.

Usually, customers have the following claims that the Customer Service team deals with:

    1) Tracked packages that did not reach the destination

At Iceland Post, when delivery of an article cannot be completed, the item is either returned to the sender or returned to the Mail Redistribution Center.

If you printed the wrong address on the shipping label, didn't include a return address, or poorly packaged the item, Iceland Post cannot be held responsible for it. In most of the other cases, the delivery company will investigate the case and refund you.

    2) Damaged tracked parcels

If the item arrives damaged, the first thing you need to do is get in contact with the seller as soon as possible. ( this is for those who purchased an item online that was later on sent with Iceland Post).

The seller will discuss the issue with the respective post company. In this case, the seller is responsible for the condition of the items when you receive them.

If the item is damaged you can enclose pictures, and put it all in writing, ideally in an email that you need to send to the seller. The seller then will investigate what happened with Iceland Post and either refund you or give you a substitute product.

    3) Confiscated tracked items

The logistics companies, which are engaged in delivery may still have packages delayed for reasons beyond their control even if they are super professional in what they do.

If a package contains a prohibited item when entering Iceland or another country (if the package originates from Iceland and goes abroad), then it will most likely be confiscated at customs by officials).

    Ground information about Iceland Post

Iceland Post (Íslandspóstur ) is the national postal operator of Iceland, providing mail forwarding services both within the country and abroad. In addition to standard delivery, it is engaged in last-mile courier delivery.

As a member of the EMS union, Iceland Post is the designated carrier for the delivery of EMS packages.

    Branches and locations

There are 120 branches in Iceland, and over 1200 people are engaged in the delivery of packages and shipments.

    The History of Iceland Post

The company dates back to the year 1776 when, Christian VII, king of Denmark (and at the time also Iceland) ordered a mail service to be established in the country. Two years later, regular postal sailings began between Iceland and Denmark, once a year.

The first Icelandic postage stamps were published in 1873, and at the same time, the Icelandic postal system was being organized under a special board and the first post offices being established.

In 1935, the postal service and the national telecommunications company were merged under the name Postur og simi (which means “Post and telephone”).

    Interesting historical facts:

    - In 1998, that governmental company was split up into two companies, Landssimi Islands (the telephone company) and Íslandspóstur. Landssími Íslands has since been privatized. Íslandspóstur has one of the greatest numbers of employees in Iceland, at nearly 1,200.

    - Íslandspóstur is a member of the Small European Postal Administration Cooperation.
